Retargeting Addons

In every category on this site, I strive to highlight at least one high-quality, free solution. For Blender Retargeting, that is the Rokoko Addon. It is well-designed and produces excellent results; I’ve used it extensively in commercial work and created deep-dive tutorials for it, which you can find in the dedicated article.

The primary drawback is its update cycle; since Rokoko’s main focus is hardware (mocap suits), the addon can sometimes lag behind the latest Blender releases.

Because of those consistency issues, my top recommendation for this category is Auto-Rig Pro (Paid). Interestingly, even the Rokoko developers have acknowledged the limitations of their own tool's retargeting features, often recommending Auto-Rig Pro as the more robust, industry-standard alternative for reliable animation transfer in Blender. Auto-Rig Pro is not just a retargeter but also a versatile rigging addon, so you’re getting plenty of value for your money.

• Expy Kit (Free/Paid - Tutorial Available): A feature-rich tool that is excellent for those who need specific control over character mapping between different applications.
• Quick Map (Free): While I haven’t personally put this through a test myself, it comes highly recommended by artists I trust and is definitely worth a look.
• Renim Node (Free): This addon generated significant buzz upon release due to its unique node-based interface. However, in my personal testing, I found it difficult to achieve reliable results.
• Rigimap (Paid): This addon is laser-focused on retargeting to Rigify rigs and features many presets, aiming to simplify the retargeting process down to a few clicks.
