Auto-Rig Pro: A quick overview
Auto-Rig Pro is a Blender addon that simplifies the character Rigging and Retargeting process by automating many of the complex tasks involved.
Auto-Rig Pro offers various features, including:
- Automated rigging: It provides tools to automatically generate a rig for a variety of characters: from humanoid to animals, and all the way to unusual and complex creatures.
- Modularity and Customization : Auto-Rig Pro is a “modular” rigging system, meaning that highly customizable rigs can be created from smaller components such as a spine, arms, legs, a face, etc. Each component (called “Limbs” within the addon) can be tweaked to fit the character’s proportions. The functionality of the rigs can also be customized using additional generation options.
- Rigging presets: The tool comes with a library of pre-made rig presets for different types of characters: human, quadruped, bird (with wings), and more.
- Smart Rig: Auto-Rig Pro offers an extremely fast and efficient way to rig Humanoid characters by just placing a couple of markers and letting the addon figure out the rest.
- Advanced Rig features: the rigs generated by Auto-Rig Pro include advanced features such as stretchy limbs, IK/FK switching, and squash-and-stretch capabilities to enhance the flexibility of character animations.
- Retargeting: Auto-Rig Pro includes a Retargeting module (called ”Remap”). It is one of the most robust and reliable Retargeting tools for Blender.
- Enhanced Weighting/Skinning: Auto-Rig Pro also provides features for faster and more robust automatic weighting/skinning.
- Game-engine Export: there are specialized options for export to Unreal Engine and Unity, as well as generalized settings for other engines.
