Rigimap is a retargeting addon for Blender focused on transferring motion capture to standard Rigify Human rigs.
It was originally designed to work with pre-configured mocap presets for e.g. Mixamo, Rokoko, Actorcore, etc.. That meant that as long as your mocap was supported, the retargeting could be done with a few clicks.
However, since version 2.0, Rigimap can now use any motion capture armature. While version 1.0 was closer to a one-click solution, version 2.0 has added needed flexibility in exchange for some setup time. Custom presets can now be added by the user.
But here is the main trade off you need to be aware of. As previously mentioned, Rigimap only works with Rigify rigs. That is simultaneously its biggest strength and greatest weakness.
Rigimap Cons
On the one hand, you will not be able to use it to transfer your mocap to any other rig. Also be aware that you need to be using a default Rigify Human Rig (both Basic and Advanced Human are supported). Of course, you can modify the Rigify Metarig and align it to you character. But if you make deeper customizations such as changing bone names, rotation modes, etc. Rigimap may produce less than perfect results.
Rigimap Pros
On the other hand, assuming that you use a default Rigify rig, the addon knows exactly what to expect! That allows it to implement many useful and advanced features such as:
- easily retargeting to both FK AND IK Rigify controls.
- implementing tweak controls for adjusting the motion after retargeting.
- hand pose presets such as fist, open hand, etc.
- foot lock for cleaning up sliding feet.
- hiding and unhiding specific controls during the retargeting process.
In a nutshell: as long as you use a standard Rigify Human rig, this addon can be one of the easiest way to retarget a variety of mocap data to it. But if you need your retargeting solution to be more flexible and handle any rig, then consider some of the other tools in this category such as the Rokoko addon or Auto-Rig Pro.
