Third Person Kit is a Blender add-on that lets you control a character in your scene much like in a third-person video game.
This can be a useful way to streamline the animation process.
All you need is a rigged character mesh and a set of basic animations, such as:
- Idle
- Walk
- Run
- Jump
After a quick setup, you can enter “game mode” and move through the scene using standard third-person controls (W, A, S, D). The add-on will record your character’s movement in real time. When you exit the session, your recorded performance is saved as a standard Blender keyframe action, which you can play back, trim, edit, or combine using the NLA editor.
While this method won’t replace the nuanced movement that a skilled animator can create, it is still a valuable tool for quickly creating simple locomotion actions, animatics, previs, and more.
