Cartwheel doesn’t get as much hype as QuickMagic, probably because QuickMagic’s marketing through YouTube “influencers” is quite aggressive. But in my tests, it is a very capable Video to Mocap solution that gives the best apps out there a run for their money.
I have not tested it as extensively as other systems but here are my impressions.
The results in their app look very good.
However, the one time I actually exported an animation and tried to use it in Blender, it was broken after export: one of the legs of the character was “twitching”. No such issue was visible in the in-app preview of the animation. The issue was not minor. It made the animation unusable in a real project even though the animation on the rest of the body was great.
This is not meant to discredit Cartwheel. They strike me as a company that genuinely tries to integrate new AI technologies in a way that is useful. But based on my experience, I’d recommend that you export and test your animation in a DCC when evaluating Cartwheel.
